Beaufort
Oh where does one begin when describing Beaufort, NC? Beaufort is the county seat of Carteret County. It”s also the 3rd oldest town in the state. Beaufort has been around for 300 years. The town and it”s people have witnessed many changes and events.
This historic town is surrounded by water for the most part. Also be aware that it is pronounced “boh-fert” as opposed to “be-you-fert” like the town in South Carolina.
With it”s proximity to the sea Beaufort has a very long and diverse maritime history. The gorgeous waterfront is proof of that to this day. You”ll see many pleasure craft as well as a variety of fishing vessels.
There”s many attractions, shopping, and educational experiences waiting for you and your family. Beaufort also provides access to some of the finest dining on the Crystal Coast.
While you”re vacationing here you”ll definitely want to check out the North Carolina Maritime Museum. It”s a very interesting and educational center of the Crystal Coast. You”re sure to learn something here.
Don”t forget to take a boat ride over to Shackleford Banks. This is a great place for a picnic and do some serious shelling. You may even get to take some nice photos of the wild ponies.
I hope you enjoy your visit to Beaufort and the rest of the Crystal Coast.
